Are VR Headsets Worth It?

Virtual reality headsets have become a hot new trend. You can find them in the latest tech magazines, at the checkout counter of your local electronics store, or even advertised on the side of my bathroom mirror.

But are they worth it? Let’s look at what virtual reality offers and who should invest in getting one.

What Are VR Headsets?

Virtual reality headsets are devices that provide a virtual reality experience. They contain a screen, which the user wears, and a controller (or controllers), which allow them to interact with the virtual environment.

The headset is worn over the eyes and ears of the user, allowing them to see through it and move around in their chosen location.

The headset also blocks all light from entering so that nothing detracts from the experience provided by the headset itself.

How Much Do VR Headsets Cost?

It’s not uncommon for any new piece of technology to seem expensive, but this isn’t the case with VR. You can get a decent headset for under $100, and plenty of devices cost less than $50. It makes them well within reach for most people interested in trying out virtual reality.

However, if you’re looking for something higher-end, it may take some time before the price drops significantly.

Despite their successors (Oculus Go and HTC Vive Pro) having been released since 2016, the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift cost has remained at around $600 each.

If you want one of those newer headsets or one that uses cutting-edge technologies like eye tracking or hand-tracking (which allows users to interact with virtual objects as if they were real), expect to pay closer to $800–$1,200 instead; than just under $600!

How is VR Headset Used?

VR headsets can be used to play games. The most popular VR headset, the Oculus Rift, comes with a game called Robo Recall that allows you to shoot at robots while they are trying to kill you. Other popular games include Arizona Sunshine and Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes.

VR headsets allow you to watch videos made for VR. People have created 360-degree videos of subjects, from roller coasters to volcanoes erupting.

You can also watch 360-degree live streams on Facebook or YouTube with your friends and family!

VR headsets allow people far apart from each other (like parents living abroad) to talk in real-time using voice chat software like Discord or Skype Video Calls on their phones as if they were in the same room together!

Should You Buy a VR Headset?

Are you considering buying a VR headset? Great! You’ve come to the right place. Many factors affect your decision, but we’ll help you sort through them.

Does this seem like something I can afford?

If you want the best experience possible, it will cost some money. But it won’t be anywhere near as expensive as buying an actual VR console gaming system. Which can run into thousands of dollars.

If all you need is a simple experience and aren’t concerned with how immersive or accurate it is. There are plenty of more affordable options available on Amazon or eBay.

We recommend searching for “Google Cardboard” when looking at these websites since they’re compatible with most smartphones (including iPhones).

But if your main goal is high-quality visuals. In that case, we’d suggest looking for an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive headset instead—these are pricier products designed specifically for virtual reality experiences rather than casual phone games like Pokémon Go!

What VR Headsets are Worth Buying?

The VR headsets you should be looking at are the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR.

The Oculus Rift costs $399 and is made by Facebook-owned Oculus. It’s one of the most popular headsets in this category, partly due to its lower price point than other market options.

It has a resolution of 2160 x 1200 pixels per eye (1080 x 1200 combined) with a refresh rate of 90Hz. The field of view is 110 degrees for each eye, and it comes with built-in headphones, which you can detach if you prefer your pair instead.

In addition, the platform comes with an integrated microphone so users can communicate with their friends while playing games.

Another great thing about this headset is that it has motion tracking features. When you turn your head or move around in real life while wearing this headset, what happens on screen also changes accordingly – making it feel more immersive than ever before!

What Else Should You Know About VR Headsets?

There are a few things to know about VR headsets before buying one:

  • They’re an Excellent Way to Play Games: The first step is to decide what kind of content you want to play on the device.

Some games require more movement than others, but they all tend to be more immersive than playing on your phone or computer.

Because of how real they can feel and how much they make you feel like you’re there in the game world (even though you aren’t). If this sounds interesting, then it’s worth trying out!

  • They Can Be Used for More than Just Games: Some people use their VR headsets for things other than video games, for example: watching videos or movies and interacting with friends via social media apps like Facebook Messenger or Skype.

Even using their phone as their only source of entertainment when traveling abroad without WiFi access! Don’t judge it until you try it since we’re talking about improving the quality of life here.

Who knows? Maybe someday soon, everyone will be walking around wearing these things while eating lunch together on Fridays.

You Can Get Great Deals on Popular VR Sets

If you’re looking to buy a VR headset, the best deals are often found during the holidays. Many retailers will offer steep discounts on VR headsets during Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and other shopping holidays. These sales can save you hundreds of dollars compared with buying at the total price.

The prices of popular virtual reality headsets fluctuate over time as well. The Oculus Rift is available for $200 less than when it first launched in 2016, while the PlayStation VR has seen a price cut since its launch in 2016.

Watch out for seasonal discounts and other short-term price drops this year or next if you want to get a deal on one of these devices!

Overall, we think that VR headsets are an exciting new way to experience games—but they’re not for everyone. If you have a lot of extra money and time or want to get into immersive gaming, it might be worth picking up a headset.

But if you’re on a budget or don’t particularly like playing games for hours on end in the dark, there are probably other ways to spend your money that will give you more enjoyment.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
